Remission

I was to have one more PET-Scan to see if there was any activity in the mutated cells. I was feeling very positive due to the shrinkage of the lymph sizes around my throat. The testwork came back with the results I was waiting for. It was time to think how to recuperate and get back to proper health.

I am 3 years in remission and counting now. I started writing a journal very sporadically during treatment and started rounding out my experience a month after my last round of chemotherapy.

11 months after my initial diagnosis, I did make it to my goal of being a part of the instructorship on a Wim Hof Winter Travel in February 2020. It was tough and there were quite a few follow-up operations that I had to contend with in 2021, but so far, everything seems to be OK.

My recovery after the year's trials really took off when I could comfortably take ice baths again and continue my breathing exercises on a regular basis. Neuropathy, nerve damage due to chemotherapy and leaving a tingling, painful feeling in hands and feet, healed rather quickly thereafter. I also used a standard acupuncture finger ring which helped alleviate some of the irritating sensations.

We even made an ice bath part of our wedding a few months after finishing the last round of chemotherapy. I do believe that is a first!

In all, it was a journey with ups and downs. And I count myself lucky that it has worked out the way it has.

Now that you made it this far through, once again, I thank you.
